Vishwaroopam - A Stunning Thriller

One cannot recall any other movie which received so much negative publicity and obstructionism that Vishwaroopam had. Still it is not released in Tamil Nadu and some parts of other states. So it becomes impossible for a viewer to go without prejudices, but this movie from the start catches the attention of the viewer and makes him focus only on cinema which I think is its biggest victory.

Vishwananthan (alias Viz) a kathak exponent and his wife Nirupama a scientist researching in Nuclear Oncology have got married for convenience. As they’re not normal couples, Nirupama wants to a have a relation with her employer Deepak. To make the way for divorce easier she employs a detective to spy on her husband. The Detective gets killed by a member of a terror group, also leaves behind the contact of Nirupama and Deepak.

The terror outfits nabs the couple and take them to a warehouse which as it is shown having people affected by cancer. As the plot thickens Nirupama finds that her husband’s real name is Wisam Ahmed Kashmiri, a RAW agent who involved in spying of Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. Omar played by Rahul Bose is the head of the terror link. The story juggles between the past of Wisam and Omar; also it straddles between Afghanistan and US. That makes the story engaging and complex with many characters and a handful of languages get involved. Overall it unfolds into a story of a global terror link having its roots in Afghanistan.

We have to give credit to the director/creator Kamal for portraying the protagonist and villain with positives and negatives. Thriller as a genre in India has one main difficulty which is the protagonist will come out successful in the end whatever the situation. So the directors have to find innovative ideas to keep the viewers hooked, without doubt Kamal has done that in this movie.

Having listed all its positives and the storyline, the movie’s biggest negative aspect is that the female leads are a bit weak. The conversations of Kamal with the female leads remind us of Dasavatharam. Director Kamal depended much on the fast paced screenplay which makes the viewer forget the logic.

"All in all the movie is a must watch for its technological expertise, the thrilling storyline and for the performance of Kamal and Rahul Bose".
